Black Cow News (title)

BOTH ALBUMS NOW FREE TO DOWNLOAD

You heard right, sister: "Left" and "The Pig Of Damocles" - go to the sounds page and help yourself. There are even two "Left"s to choose from.

And the new stuff? It's going to be a whole album, it's going to be penis-dropping-offly fantastic and it's actually not that far off.

Pete and Dickie have got the hang of the file-sharing production thing and they've been working hard. Four or five songs are finished and at least half a dozen more are pootling along the production line. Hang on in there!

SOME NEWS

Well, in case you couldn't feel the vibrations, last week Black Cow uttered its final "moo" before Pete moves to Sweden. It was, suitably, perhaps our best gig ever.

Was it our last gig ever? Maybe not, but for the time being at least this is going to be more of a long-distance recording project than a band in the traditional sense. We do (still!) have a bunch of almost-finished songs on the go, so expect an EP at the very least before the year's out. After that, who can say?

Keep yourself bovine, and keep listening.

RUMBLE OF APPROACHING HOOVES...?

Hey. We've been having babies and suchlike. Stopped now. First full band practice of the year next week. Next album starting to come together in some style. Is it worth updating the myspace site or does nobody remember what myspace is now?

SOD THIS

Right, rather than becoming ultra-repetitive, let's just say that unless you hear otherwise, we're too busy writing and developing stunningly beautiful new songs to finish/publish the stunningly beautiful old ones. We will finish it all eventually, so don't worry if nothing happens on this website for a while.

TOO MANY HORSEYS FOR A WOMAN TO HOLD!!!

Er… new songs are even more "pretty much polished" than they were before, but what are we like? Can't be bothered to finish them off because we're too excited about recording the NEW new stuff, which is spectacularly quiet and pretty. Bear with us - we will get round to finishing (and sticking online) everything soon enough.

No gigs for the time being because Cormac's out of action. It's an old 'Nam wound that flares up every time he eats a pomegranate.

HOLD YOUR HORSEYS!

New songs are pretty much polished now, and we've already started on the next batch. Sounding a touch more delicate and restrained than what we've been doing of late. Suppose we'd better put something online at some point, eh?

In the meantime, Pete has thrown out his bed, Dickie has bought an AC15, Cormac has been rounding up Haitian orphans in a big net and Daz has invented non-staining Ribena. Apparently it tastes like piss, but one thing at a time.

UPDATE TING!

Thanks to everyone who made it to Bar Rumba t'other night. If you didn't, we ruled. Watch out for the next one...

Update on the new songs... they're even more nearly finished than they were last month!!! All four tracks are now close to being cooked (all sounding well tasty) and Pete is just carrying out some final mix-tweakages. The songs are Bathroom, Crowd Pleaser, Mine All Mine and What It Really Means.

WEST END RAMPAGE Pt2!

Sniff it! That promised summer gig, at last - we're playing Bar Rumba again on the 18th of September. We had a good crowd last time so they've rewarded us with a later slot... full details and flyer to follow shortly.

And the new songs are still nearly finished! It's just that we keep going on holiday, and we're not the Monkees so we don't necessarily do so all at the same time.

Imagine going on holiday with Mike Nesmith. You could ask him all about "Texas Morning" and "Harmony Constant". And Tipp-Ex.

NEW SONGS! NEARLY DONE!

Hey hey! The lowly cattle-shed has been rattling all night with the sounds of creation, and it's all sounding quite awesome. The new EP (aka the first four songs of the next album) is very close to completion and we hope to have one of the songs up on the myspace site before long.

We're also looking to play at least one gig this summer, if we can pick our way around the complex and totally unco-ordinated holiday schedules of the band members. Watch this space.

And thanks to everyone who turned up to the last one at Bar Rumba - really great turnout and a really great night.

PULVERISING POP IN THE PIPELINE

Now then. Bit of a quiet month - Dickie's been away and Cormac's been doing secret undercover work for the government, but we're all back in the game now... AND we've been making great progress in the studio.

Four triffic new songs under construction, and one of them is mixed already. The plan is to distribute them FREE via blackcowband.net as an EP, with a view to following that up with a couple more EPs and eventually putting it all together as an album.

So how's it sounding? A little bit more direct and rocky than "Left", but with no less harmonious wondrousness...

APPARENTLY WE'RE BRILLIANT

Well the first proper review of "Left" has dropped, courtesy of the Cool Noise site. Below is a taste of what they say. Go to coolnoise.co.uk to read the full review.

"It was quite a shock to my delicate musical constitution to start listening to this album and suddenly be confronted with harmonies from a lost age ... the music includes loads of alt guitar that Bob Mould would have been proud of. As the album progresses, it takes on its own special character of songs of experience and artistry ... there is a lightness of touch, a paring down of each track until every note is just what is needed to approach perfection. It is so beautifully put together that you have to just sit back and admire it. More importantly, you are rewarded with a stunning meld of musicianship and melody."

FROM ONE UNFORGETTABLE NIGHT OF LEGEND TO ANOTHER...

Thank you and well done to everyone who made it to the Comedy. It was a pigging good turnout and I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did (massive white light three inches from Dickie's face notwithstanding).

But we cannot rest on our laurels, because they're all spiky - and so attention turns swiftly to Tuesday the 29th of April, when we will be banging out a distinctly different set at the Hope & Anchor, Islington. The "distinctly different" part is because we're hoping that this - plus the reward of a FREE COPY OF THE ALBUM as a super-special loyalty bonus - will encourage some plucky types to make both legs of the double-header. Or should that be both heads? Or should that be double-legger?

Here's your flyer:

AN ALBUM, A GIG AND... ANOTHER ALBUM?

Good evening, cowsters. Apologies for the prolonged silence from these quarters - something to do with server hibernation, apparently. Or was it migration?

Tons to report anyway. The album is now officially out there, we've finally booked our first gig of the year, and just this week we've been putting down some über-tremendous drum tracks for four top new songs which will form the core of the next Black Cow release. Keep watching this space for updates.

The gig is on the 14th of April at The Comedy, on Oxendon Street in London's fashionable West End (sorry, trilby-flexing cocaine-cockneys - the whole East London thing was a practical joke by Jeremy Beadle... and now he's dead).

Doubtless you'll be after some sort of flyer, eh? Come back in a few days and there'll be one here to download and print out.

That'll do for now. Keep it bovine!

THE FOOLS! THEY'VE FINALLY GONE AND DONE IT!

Yes, just in time for Valentine's, "Left" is here at last. And if it can just hold on for another 92 years or so, it's a shoo-in for album of the century.

What better way to mark the day of icky-slicky romance than by releasing an album about the bitter, heart-splitting death of love? It's the masterpiece that took years to finish but will only take you a matter of seconds to download or order on CD – and all for just two pounds and ninety-nine pennies. Hop on over here to get yours.

Well the big news this week is the magnificent new Black Cow website... but you know about that already because you're looking at it.

Put down that shovel and have a trudge around. You can hear some songs here, see some nice pictures here, and find out about our stupendous new album here.

Watch this space for news of upcoming gigs and other such excitement, but don't forget to keep an eye on myspace.com/blackcowband too.
